PSA – All Residents

There are no current confirmed cases of Corona Virus in Dunkirk that I am aware of at this time, but that doesn’t mean there are not individuals who are at risk.  I am encouraging everyone to be vigilant, and to take precautions and follow the guidelines set out by Governor Cuomo and the department of health.

Basic symptoms of this virus are shortness of breath, persistent cough, and fever.  Unless your symptoms are severe, do not go to the ER or an Urgent Care Facility – call your health care provider.  SELF Quarantine!  Stay Home!

I urge everyone to be aware of the importance of prevention.  Therefore, I have instructed my department heads to take pro-active action in City Hall, and I urge all residents of the city of Dunkirk to do so as well.

The basic prevention guidelines are:

  • Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing, coughing with a tissue and throw the tissue away.
  • DO NOT SHAKE HANDS – use the fist pump or elbow pump.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water – lather and wash under running hot water to the tune of “Happy Birthday” generally 20-30 seconds
  • Wipe surfaces regularly with sanitized wipes – alcohol or bleach based
  • Use hand sanitizers liberally – especially when touching doorknobs, stair bannisters, etc.
  • Keep hands away from mouth, nose and eyes as much as possible
  • If you feel sick, feverish, coughing, sneezing, shortness of breath or have flu like symptoms – STAY HOME! Call your health care provider!

As more information becomes available I, or a member of my staff, will keep you informed.  In the meantime, please stay tuned to your local radio station, television channel and Dunkirk Access 1301.

For more information, you can call the NYSDOH Hotline at 1(888) 364-3065 or visit

Thank you,

Mayor Wilfred Rosas
