City of Dunkirk and Red Cross Partnership

The City of Dunkirk, Dunkirk Fire Department, and the American Red Cross are joining together for another shared mission — preventing tragedy due to house fires.

Once a resident requests to participate in the program, the Dunkirk Fire Department will visit the home and install the smoke alarms. During this visit, firefighters will also help the residents learn about home fire safety and how to create a fire escape plan.

The Red Cross Home Fire Campaign is a national push by the nonprofit to reduce the number of fire-related deaths and injuries by 25 percent over five years. The partnership announced Wednesday with the city of Dunkirk and the fire department is the first of its kind in Chautauqua County.
