The Department of Development provides unique and innovative programs designed to help local citizens and businesses. With some of the most creative programs in community development, economic development and housing the department has and will continue to effectively respond to the needs of the community.

The Department of Development’s professional staff works with local elected officials, business leaders, economic development professionals, small business owners, entrepreneurs, non-profits, arts and cultural organizations and universities to provide technical assistance, financial assistance and educational opportunities that will ensure a vibrant economic future for our City.

In addition the Department of Development works closely with partner economic development organizations such as the City of Dunkirk Industrial Development Agency, Dunkirk Local Development Corporation, County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency, Dunkirk-Sheridan Empire Zone and the Empire State Development Corporation. By working in a collaborative manner the Department of Development has reduced the barriers to doing business within the City of Dunkirk while brining a full complement of resources to any development discussion.

Additionally the Department is responsible for the day to day administration of the City’s annual Community Development Block Grant provided by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Examples of the many programs administered through this program include housing development and rehabilitation, community development activities and civic development activities.
