2009 Music on the Pier Summer Concert Season to kick-off this week with the Steve Johnson Band

On Thursday, June 18th, the Music on the Pier summer concert series presented by Budweiser will kick of its 2009 season and will showcase the soulful music of the Steve Johnson Band. The event takes place 6:30-8:30 p.m. on the Dunkirk Pier.
In a performance sponsored by Cliffstar Corporation the Steve Johnson Band will feature a sound that bounces from its foundation in Folk, Roots Rock to Bluegrass, Gospel all the way down to Tribal Laden Funk. Steve Johnson Band is a band made up of four musically diverse, musicians. Steve Johnson, Amanda Barton and Steve Davis (all formerly of the roots rock band BIG LEG EMMA) are no stranger to the touring world. The three have performed with such acts as Donna the Buffalo, Rusted Root, Little Feat,10,000 Maniacs, Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, Vassar Clemens, David Grisman, and The Wailers to name a few. Daniel Witherspoon sets the solid back beat on Drum kit and has performed all his life in various musical groups at a professional level. The four have come together to make up what is known as THE STEVE JOHNSON BAND.
Additionally this week's performance will feature a new for 2009 Third Thursday Art show featuring member artists of the Chautauqua Lake Erie Art Trail and several exciting independent artists. The works will be available for purchase under the art show tent sponsored by the Chadwick Bay Lofts on the third Thursday of each month.
The Music on the Pier summer concert season, like all City of Dunkirk Festivals and events are offered to the public free of charge courtesy of the generous corporate support of Budweiser, NRG, Cliffstar and 96KIX and 1410 WDOE. Area residents are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music and art on the Dunkirk City Pier. In the event of inclement weather the performance will occur as scheduled, however it will be located in the pavilion at the Clarion Hotel.
