CITY OF DUNKIRK DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING AND DEVLOPMENT RELEASES NEW HOUSING REHABILITATION PROGRAMS
DUNKIRK (FEBUARY 4, 2009) -- The City of Dunkirk's Department of Planning and Development would like to announce the release of two new Housing Rehabilitation Programs. The goal of these programs is to help income or area eligible homeowners improve their homes and neighborhoods.
The primary program, the City of Dunkirk Housing Rehabilitation Program is structured to improve the housing of income or area eligible persons in a manner that conserves existing housing stock and contributes to neighborhood revitalization and preservation. Grants are available for up to 100% of eligible rehabilitation expenses not to exceed $5000 for standard repairs and $7500 for roof replacements. Amounts in excess of these figures will generally not be considered unless an emergent / special circumstance can be shown. Grants are to be utilized for one eligible project per year and projects cannot be combined.
The second program, the City of Dunkirk Emergency Housing Rehabilitation Program is designed to offer immediate assistance to homeowners in energy situations. These situations would include fires, floods, furnaces, electric, and plumbing.
Applications are available at the Department of Development office 338 Central Ave., second floor Sterns Building, or visit www.cityofdunkirk.com and click on the development link. Applications for the spring 2009 funding round are due in the Department of Development Office by March 13, 2009 at 12p.m. Emergency fund applications are accepted at anytime.
This program is funded by the City of Dunkirk Community Development Block Grant in cooperation with the U.S. Housing and Urban Department of Development.
