Youth Bureau
The City of Dunkirk Youth Bureau puts on a variety of youth activities throughout the year. Summer Camp at Camp Gross is the most successful youth program the City runs. We also put on other events such as sports clinics and camps, end of school-year contests, Halloween events, Thanksgiving poster contests and Santa’s Workshop. What is Camp Gross? When is Camp Gross? Sign-ups: You can only sign up for camp in person. Sign-ups will begin shortly. Stay tuned for more information. Where is Camp Gross? Camp Gross is a youth camp, operated by the Camp Gross Foundation. It is located 1 mile north of the Village of Cassadaga, on New York Route 60. The Camp itself is 60 acres of woods, wetlands and has one of the finest waterfronts found on the Cassadaga Lake system. Wildlife at the camp is varied and plentiful for the nature enthusiasts. On any given day you can witness squirrels, rabbits, raccoon, deer, turkey, ducks, muskrat, beaver and even blue heron. Cassadaga Lake is home to a wide variety of fish including bass, muskellunge, northern pike and a variety of pan fish. Who Can Attend Camp Gross? How Much is Camp Gross? Want to “Send a Kid to Camp”? Many Dunkirk children cannot afford to attend camp. Children are never turned away, but donations from people and places like you help significantly. Major League Baseball and Boys & Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County sponsored Pitch, Hit and Run, will take place on Saturday, May 9 at Promenschenkel Stadium at 11:00 am. All youth ages 7-14 are welcomed.Pitch, Hit and Run
A local Punt, Pass and Kick competition was hosted by the City of Dunkirk on Wednesday, September 30. Boys and Girls, ages 6-15 participated in this event at Pangolin Field. Below are the winners: Winners will move on to the Sectional Competition on Sunday, November 1.Punt, Pass and Kick
Recreation Center Schedule Youth Programming Come bring your kids to the Recreation Center and have them play with new Christmas toys, kick a ball around, or just run around. Its too cold to play outside, so stay warm inside for Playday. This program will run Monday, Wednesday from 10:00am-12:00pm, and Fridays from 10:00am-2:00pm. During Christmas break, this will be available Monday through Friday. Fee: $1.00 per child. Parents are free! Eat Smart New York is offering FREE programming at Rec Cener this winter. Nutrition educator Stephanie Caputo with The Chautauqua Center will be teaching nutrition basics, buying healthy food on a budget, how to use portion control to promote healthy weight, and more. Additionally, exercise will be incorporated into each class as it helps our bodies to feel good and look great! TheChatauquaCenter.org for more information on Eat Smart New York! Every other Tuesday beginning January 5 Adult Open Programming Come beat the cold and play some pick-up soccer, every Monday night from 7:00pm-10:00pm. Soccer is open to anyone 18 years and older. Fee: $4.00 per adult Practice your skills with indoor hockey this winter at the Recreation Center. Come every Sunday morning form 11:00am-1:00pm for some pick-up hockey. Leagues are also available. Fee: $4.00 per adult The Recreation Center will be open mornings for an adult walking program. Enjoy a morning walk, new this year from Monday through Friday; 7:30am-10:00am. You can put in miles of comfortable walking indoors while the cold blows around outside. Session runs December 14 through April 15. Fee: $1.00 per session. Punch Cards are available for $10.00 which includes 14 walks. Facility Rentals Have your birthday party at the Recreation Center! You bring the food and beverages, and we’ll supply the rest. Birthday party rentals include full use of the Recreation Center and equipment which includes: tables, chairs, music system, sports equipment, such as hockey goals, hockey sticks, and sports balls. Also, a supervisor will be on hand to provide answers to any of your questions and help with equipment. Fee: $30.00 per hour for City Residents, $40.00 per hour for non City Residents. Download a Birthday/Group Rental Form Dry land hockey, soccer, baseball/softball practices. Bring your team inside our facility. Open time slots are available and must be reserved at the Recreation Office prior to the date or rental. Fee: $15.00 per hour.Recreation Center
