City of Dunkirk Department of Public Works reminds residents that there will be a curbside recycling pickup on Monday, January 11.

Recycling calendars for 2016 will be available soon.

Rubbish Pickup

City of Dunkirk residents who usually put their garbage out for Friday pickup will have their pickup on Saturday, January 2, 2016, instead of January 1, 2016, in observance of New Year’s Day.


Recycling calendars for 2016 and 2017 are still to be determined, based on on-going changes by vendors available to accept the City’s recycled material. The calendars should be determined soon, so they can be printed and distributed early in 2016.


There is no recycling pickup scheduled until Monday, January 11, 2016, but the City’s drop-off recycling center on Lucas Avenue is open work days from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Rubbish-Christmas Week

Dunkirk City Hall will be closed on Thursday and Friday, December 24 and 25 in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

 Rubbish in the Thursday collection zone will be picked up on Thursday as usual and rubbish in the Friday collection zone will be picked up on Saturday.

Dunkirk City Hall will be closed on Thursday, November 26 in observance of Thanksgiving Day.

Leaf Pickup

City of Dunkirk Public Works will be picking up bags and barrels of leaves beginning Monday, November 9.  Residents are asked to have bagged leaves at the curb by 7:00 am Monday.  Loose leaves will not be picked up at this time, but will be picked up by city crews the following week.

Mayor Dolce will release his 2016 proposed budget today at 2:30 in the Mayor’s Conference Room at City Hall.

E Seventh Street Closing

City of Dunkirk Public Works announces that final paving of E. Seventh Street between Deer Street and Central Avenue will take place on Monday, October 12.

Residents must move vehicles off of E. Seventh Street and affected side streets by 7:00 am.

Low Water Pressure in First Ward

City of Dunkirk Fire Department wishes to advise residents in the first ward that fire department personnel will be testing fire hydrants throughout the month of October and residents may experience low water pressure at various times.
