City of Dunkirk water main breaks from Willowbrook Avenue southerly through the plaza and Vineyard Drive began late Thursday evening and continue throughout Friday, but are being addressed as quickly as possible by City crews.

Due to equipment breakdowns, the city of Dunkirk did not complete scheduled recycling pickup today.
Anybody who still has items out for pickup is asked to bring them back in and hold them for the next recycle pickup, scheduled for Jan. 13. Residents may bring recycling to the Lucas Avenue recycling center, which will be open this week, including Saturday, except for New Year’s Day.
Recycling pickup was cut short due to equipment breakdowns, darkness and the county’s transfer station closing at 4:30 p.m.
Dunkirk residents wishing to dispose of Christmas trees may do so at the Central Garage on Lucas Avenue by placing them on the brush pile.
Residents can leave trees at the curb and call the Garage at 366-4411 and leave the address and it will be picked up when personnel is available.
The recycling center on Lucas Avenue will be closed tomorrow, December 28.
City of Dunkirk calendars for 2014 and 2015 Curbside Collection of Rubbish, Recycling, Brush, and other items, are being printed for insertion and distribution in The Observer. Due to holiday observances, the distribution may be delayed until early 2014, but the electronic version of the calendar is immediately available at the City’s website, dunkirktoday.com. The Mayor and the Director of Public Works thank all city residents for following the procedures outlined in the calendars, and they specially request that residents increase their participation in the zero-sort recycling curbside pickup on alternate Mondays, and drive-in zero-sort recycling is available in the morning to early afternoon Mondays through most Saturdays at the City Recycling Center on West Lucas Avenue.
The Recycling Center on Lucas Avenue will be closed on Saturday, December 21 and Saturday December 28.
